Documents connecting to the possible replacer of Dag Lindgren
The agenda will probably be followed at this site from end of 2007 till the position is filled and the new professor has started to lift salary.

In winter 2010 the position was filled with Harry X Wu who will start in the autumn 2010.

The faculty decided to suggest to Rektor that one of applicants, Harry X Wu, should be offered the position as Professor in Forest genetics and tree breeding. Harry Wu will probably come to Umeå in October for negotiations.

Handläggare: Sundström Erik Byrå: Fakulteten för Skogsvetenskap

A meeting with a committee has occurred and some have been short-listed and some interviews occurred May 12, but a suggestion was probably not formulated but the process will take unknown time. Erik Sundström earlier expressed that if no complications it would be ready before the summer.

One of the applicants among the short-listed (Nuno Borralho) has withdrawn and another was invited.

“In conjunction with the interviews of the candidates for the position as Professor in Forest genetics and Tree breeding

the faculty together with the department of Forest genetics and Plant physiology and UPSC would like to organize a research seminar session in the morning of the 11th of May and followed by a lecturing session in the afternoon the same day according to the schedule below. “

Research seminar: Room KB4C10 at Umeå university

Presentation of ongoing research

09:00-9:30            Pär Ingvarsson  "The genetic basis of adaptations in bud phenology across a     latitudinal gradient in European aspen (Populus tremula)"

09:45-10:15         Harry X Wu  “Quantitative and Molecular Genetics, and Tree Breeding of Radiata Pine in CSIRO”

10:30-11:00         Xao-Ru Wang  “Hybrid speciation of a high mountain pine Pinus densata on Tibetan Plateau”

11.15-11.45         Reiner Finkeldey “Understanding and Managing Diversity: Examples from Forest Genetics”

The test lectures were about quantitative and molecular genetics but the public was not invited and it was just four listeners.

The time for application expired 090107, there were nine applicants but only those who were considered eligible by at least one evaluator are listed:

Since end of April 2008 the agenda of replacement is at the Dean and the central administration, I cannot see a reason why SLU would not announce the position before 081015, as it takes around a year to fill and as it does not seem to matter that much if the new professor comes a month "too" early.

SLU asked for a professor in forest genetics year 2000 after Gösta Eriksson in Uppsala.  From the adverticement::
The position attracted 10 geneticists as applicants, nine of them with a good records with forest trees, all of them "docentkompetenta", several of them became "full" professors shortly after. But the position was not filled, and the forest genetic group in Uppsala faded away after that. A professor has now been recruited, which may be seen as a replacement of Gösta Eriksson, but it is in plant genetics and molecular and of little relevance to e.g. forest tree breeding.

In 1960-1995 there were three professors connected to forest genetics. A professor in provenance research (Anders Persson) passed away 1995 and was never replaced. Thus forest genetics can be said to have lost two professors in the past 15 years, the question is what will be left of the third?
